Entrapped Moisture Removal

WindSmart Systems

WindSmart System Performance

The removal of entrapped moisture is a critical strategy for roof longevity, high thermal values and the ongoing, long-term recycling of commercial roof assemblies. If insulation can be kept dry and membrane loose laid, the roof can be in a continual recover mode – thus avoiding expensive and wasteful tear-off practice. The WindSmart System is proven in the field and validated through 3rd party testing to verify the capability to remove entrapped moisture.

WindSmart Systems has developed standardized processes to achieve such moisture removal capabilities. The system may be used in existing roof assemblies and in new construction lightweight and poured-in-place concrete deck drying applications. Each application is reviewed by a WindSmart Systems technical staff member to recommend the proper methodology to achieve a moisture mitigating roof assembly. WindSmart Systems is committed to being the market leader within the specialized entrapped moisture removal market.

Entrapped Moisture Removal in Existing Roof Assemblies

In re-roof applications, on any type of deck, the WindSmart System can be configured to dry out moist, wet roof assemblies. With the aid of wind on the building, an engineered process of low-pressure controlled air exchange can be created. Water vapor can be removed and expelled through WindSmart WindForce 365 Equalization Vents with wind onto the roof. The application uses the same principles utilized in a simple clothes dryer.

Entrapped Moisture Removal in New Construction

In new construction applications such as concrete decks, the WindSmart System has been documented to remove moisture – without a system failure. The WindSmart System can be applied to poured-in-place concrete and pre-approved lightweight insulated decks to remove entrapped moisture – solving the known industry problem of curing and drying.

Independent Laboratory Testing of Entrapped Moisture Removal

In controlled laboratory environments utilizing standardized CSA testing, a single WindSmart WindForce 365 Equalization Vent extracted 16% of the test assembly moisture in only 10 hours of dynamic wind uplift testing under test condition built to fail.
